The College of Engineering adopts an interdisciplinary approach by using a flexible curriculum that provides students with diverse technical skills for careers that\u00a0directly engage in critical issues and grand challenges facing global society.<\/p>\n<p>Within the <a href=\"http:\/\/engineering.uga.edu\/research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">College of Engineering<\/a>, the Rotavera Group is aligned with the <em>Secure, Resilient and Sustainable Systems<\/em> research cluster and focuses on issues related to sustainable transportation energy in the form of liquid biofuels.<\/p>\n<p>Within the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chem.uga.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Chemistry<\/a>, the Rotavera group aligns with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chem.uga.edu\/research\/physical-chemistry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Physical Chemistry<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chem.uga.edu\/research\/environmental-atmospheric-chemistry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Environmental\/Atmospheric Chemistry<\/em><\/a> research areas.[\/vc_column_text]<h2 class=\"fac-title reg_bg text-center\" id=\"Application\" style=\"color:#4b4b4b\">Application Procedure<\/h2>\n[vc_column_text]Prospective doctoral students must be admitted into the Ph.D. program in either the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chem.uga.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Chemistry<\/a> or the <a href=\"http:\/\/engineering.uga.edu\/college-engineering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">College of Engineering<\/a>, the latter of which is organized without departmental boundaries to promote advanced studies at the interface of multiple disciplines. Masters degree programs are also administered in both the Department of Chemistry and in\u00a0the College of Engineering, and\u00a0prospective Masters students must satisfy the admission requirements for the respective program of interest.<\/p>\n<p>Previous research experience is required and a strong fundamental background, evidenced by course grades and research activity (where applicable), is critically important. Through\u00a0SURO, the Department of Chemistry provides opportunities for motivated undergraduate students interested in conducting research projects\u00a0in world-class research laboratories and working directly with faculty and Ph.D. students.<\/p>\n<p>Undergraduate students in chemistry from U.S. Colleges and Universities completing either sophomore or junior years are encouraged to apply. \u00a0Applicants must complete an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suro-uga-chem.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">application form<\/a> and arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent on their behalf from faculty members familiar with their recent academic progress. CURO Summer Fellows are awarded $3000.
