Evan Andrew Marshall, 21, of Athens, Georgia, who was killed in action Monday, January 28, 2008 in Mosul, Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>Evan was born on June 2, 1986, and attended Athens Academy and Cedar Shoals High School, where he graduated in 2004. Upon graduation, he joined the Army, trained at Ft. Benning and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado, in which he served until the time of his death. He initially served in Iraq from December 2005 until December 2006. He returned to Iraq for his second tour of duty in December 2007.<\/p>\n<p>During his service in the Army, Evan was awarded a number of decorations, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He also earned the Army Commendation Medal, three Army Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, as well as the Global War on Terrorism Medal. Evan also held the Combat Infantry Badge and Expert Weapons Qualification Badge.
